Traffic Records
The ability to provide the most reliable and useful information to decision makers is increasingly critical. The data that feeds into the most needed information requests must meet the following list of criteria as established by Association of Transportation Safety Information Professionals (
ATSIP):
accuracy, completeness, consistency, timeliness, accessibility, and integration.
The background and in-depth explanation of the importance of traffic records with these criteria can be examined in the
National Agenda for the Improvement of Highway Safety Information
Systems. The current status of declining funding for transportation systems in the United States has been referred to as the '
quiet creeping crisis'. The increasing lack of funding and growing disparity with rising costs of resources and petroleum is evident with events such as the bridge collapse in Minnesota and everyday events including the congestion issues that rob our nation of production, fuel, and personal time, and contribute to declining environmental quality. Unfortunately, this lack of funding also impacts all phases of data and information that is necessary to bring this critical information to decisions makers.
